A man believed to be of Brazilian descent has been attacked by a group of teenagers in Dublin, at 10 pm last night. The assault took place at the Luas stop outside Heuston Station and said to be racially-motivated.
According to an eye witness, the man has been attacked by a group of teenagers, calling him ‘f*****g p**i’ before him being punched and kicked. The gang also threatened two other men on the tram and fled the scene quickly after.
The incident started in the tram where the witness, the victim and the assailants were travelling before.
“It was a very mixed group of passengers. There were two guys to the rear of me. I noticed them get on and I could hear them chatting as they were quite loud., but they weren’t causing any trouble. Just talking to each other.”
“But then I heard them go quiet and one of them answered back that ‘it’s a free country. We can talk about what we like’ and it sounded defensive.”
The witness named Dave Donnelly told the Dublin Live.
The attackers seemed to be in their late teens and mid-twenties.
“The young guy (an attacker) said ‘stop looking at me you f*****g p**i’, and then turned to his friends and said ‘he is looking at me funny’.” said Dave.
Dave saw the teenage group staring at the two men and later when the victim got off the tram in Heuston, they followed him and attacked.
“The lads followed him and jumped him from behind on the paved area outside Heuston before the bridge leading over to the north side of the river.”
“The boys were kicking and punching the guy. I was calling the guards but then saw the guy fall to the ground as it escalated.” Dave said.
The victim was shaken as Dave and others approached him and he was saying ‘I am okay.’
Dave believes the man is of Brazilian descent but not sure.
In the recent months attacks by teenagers on innocent people are increasing in Dublin area. There is also criticism that Garda does not show efficiency in stopping the attacks.
