Sinn Fein remains the most popular political party in Ireland in the latest poll conducted by The Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks. The main opposition party has the support of 33% of the people, which is way ahead of the government coalition parties.

Fine Gael is down two points to 23% and Fianna Fáil rose by two to 19%. The Green Party fell by one point to 3%.

Labour Party 4%, Social Democrats 4%, Solidarity People Before Profit 3% and Aontú 2%. Meanwhile the others and the independents have the support of 9% of the people.
Even though Sinn Fein is the most popular party, it is unlikely they form a government in the next general election. According to the survey report, 38% of the people still support the current Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael/Green Party Government coalition. 34% are in favour of a new government led by Sinn Fein.
Among the leaders Sinn Féin party leader Mary Lou McDonald is the most popular with a score of 4.1 out of 10. Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin’s score was 3.9, followed by Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar on 3.8.
