Twenty-nine people arrested in major Dublin shoplifting operation

Gardaí have arrested 29 people as part of Operation Proscilla, a targeted crackdown on shoplifting activities across Dublin.

The suspects, comprising 25 men and four women, face a range of charges including theft, handling stolen goods, criminal damage and assault on retail staff. All 29 individuals are due to appear in court this morning.

The operation was launched in response to a spate of shoplifting incidents that have plagued the Dublin 7 area in recent weeks. Gardaí say the arrests represent a significant breakthrough in tackling what they describe as organized retail crime in the capital.

Operation Proscilla forms part of a broader Crime Prevention and Reduction Strategy designed to combat organized shoplifting rings and deter similar criminal activity across the city. The initiative involves coordinated efforts between local Garda units and retail businesses to identify and apprehend repeat offenders.

Shoplifting has become an increasingly serious concern for Dublin retailers, with many reporting rising losses due to theft and associated costs from damage and staff assaults. The operation demonstrates Gardaí’s commitment to protecting businesses and their employees from criminal activity.

Gardaí continue to appeal to retailers and members of the public to report suspicious activity and to work collaboratively in preventing retail crime across Dublin.
