Gardaí have arrested two men in Co Carlow, after the body of an elderly man was brought to a post office to claim his pension.
Peadar Doyle, 66, was brought to the post office on Staplestown Road last Friday morning by two men who left him thereafter staff became concerned for his welfare.
It was later discovered that the man had died, but the exact cause of his death has yet to be determined. His body was removed from the scene. However, it is believed that foul play has been ruled out.
Gardai confirmed that two men, aged in their 30s, were arrested in Carlow on Wednesday morning.
The men were being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and could be questioned for up to 24 hours.
A Garda spokesperson said: “The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.”
