A suspect was being questioned by Gardai last night after a man was fatally stabbed in a homeless hostel.
The victim, identified by authorities as Jamie Kavanagh, was hit repeatedly during a dispute at the facility in south inner city Dublin.
According to sources, the 24-year-old was a native of South County Dublin and resided in the Harrington Street sheltered for homeless men.
The arrested man is a native of west Dublin’s Blanchardstown neighbourhood and is 41 years old. Sources claim that he has a number of criminal offences. When Gardai were sent to the hostel at 4.45 am, they found Mr. Kavanagh seriously injured.
He was sent to St. James’ Hospital right away, but wounds ultimately claimed his life. The suspect was questioned by detectives from Kevin Street Garda station yesterday night, and they have the right to keep him for a full day.
The area was sealed off yesterday and gardai appealed for witnesses to come forward. A spokesman said: “Gardai are investigating a fatal assault on a man that occurred in the early hours of this morning. At approximately 4.45am, gardai received reports of a male, 20s, with serious injuries at the location.”
