The 61st BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition kicks off today at Dublin’s RDS, showcasing Ireland’s brightest young scientific talent with 550 innovative projects from 225 schools nationwide.

Selected from over 2,000 submissions, these projects will compete for the prestigious Young Scientist of the Year title, which carries a €7,500 prize, along with 200 other awards across various categories. Over the next three days, 85 judges will evaluate the entries to determine the winners.
President Michael D Higgins will officially open the exhibition at 2pm today, with his address being streamed live on the event’s official website and Facebook page. The President has extended his best wishes to all competitors this morning.
According to The Journal, the exhibition opens to the public tomorrow, featuring an array of entertaining and educational activities including performances by Mark the Science Guy, interactive shows by Circus 250, and 3D space tours. The grand finale will take place on Friday evening with the announcement of the overall winner and international awards.
This annual event continues to be one of Ireland’s largest and longest-running STEM events, fostering innovation and scientific curiosity among young people across the country.
