Cinematographer died following accidental shot fired from prop gun by actor Alec Baldwin; Director in serious condition

A cinematographer has been died and the director is in serious condition after a prop gun used for shooting accidentally fired. The incident took place on the set of a movie named ‘Rust’ in US on Thursday, where the gun was accidentally fired by popular American actor Alec Baldwin.

Filming of the movie set in 19th century was taking place in New Mexico. Cinematographer of the movie Halyna Hutchin, 42, was immediately taken to the hospital on a helicopter but died later at the hospital.

The director of the movie Joel Souza (48) had also been taken to hospital and according to the reports, he is in serious condition.

Usually prop guns do not use real ammunitions and there are strict rules to follow while filming such scenes. The police have started investigating and questioned Mr. Baldwin about the incident. No charges have been filed yet.

In a statement to AFP news agency, a Santa Fe sheriff spokesman said Mr Baldwin had spoken to detectives.

“He came in voluntarily and he left the building after he finished his interviews,” the spokesman said.

According to her personal website, Ms Hutchins was from Ukraine and grew up on a Soviet military base in the Arctic Circle. She studied journalism in Kyiv, and film in Los Angeles, and was named a “rising star” by the American Cinematographer magazine in 2019.

She was the director of photography for the 2020 action film Archenemy, directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer.

“I’m so sad about losing Halyna. And so infuriated that this could happen on a set,” Mr Mortimer said in a tweet.

Alec Baldwin is known for films such as It’s Complicated along with Meryl Streep and Motherless Brooklyn. He also a popular through TV shows and series.
