Dublin man charged after assault on Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman

A 45-year-old man from Dublin has pleaded guilty to assaulting Green Party leader and Minister Roderic O’Gorman.

The incident occurred while O’Gorman was canvassing in his local community on Saturday.

The accused, Karl Ronan of Erris Square, Waterville, Blanchardstown, appeared before Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court. He was charged under Section 2 for assault, as well as for engaging in threatening, abusive, or insulting behavior that could provoke a breach of the peace.

In addition to the assault charge, Ronan faces a charge of property damage related to the incident, specifically for allegedly damaging a clipboard belonging to O’Gorman during the altercation.

Judge McHugh released Ronan on bail under his own bond of €100.

The accused, who was arrested at his residence, made no comment in response to the charges when detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
