In a surprising turn of events, Ireland and the United Kingdom have been selected as co-hosts for the 2028 UEFA Euro Cup after Turkey’s withdrawal from the competition. UEFA, the governing body of European football, approved the joint hosting request from these two nations.
Originally, Turkey was set to organize the 2028 Euro Cup but decided to withdraw, paving the way for their hosting opportunity in 2032, alongside Italy. As a result, the 2028 tournament will span five countries, with matches taking place in Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales. England will be the primary host, with six stadiums, while one stadium each will be designated in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The distribution of matches among these venues is yet to be determined.
The hosting of the Euro Cup is expected to provide a significant boost to Ireland’s tourism industry. This news comes in contrast to the 2024 Euro Cup, which will be hosted solely by Germany.
