Dublin homeowners set to see property tax hike from 2026 in return for better services

A prospective ruling coalition of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, the Green Party and Labour have reached an agreement to increase Local Property Tax (LPT) from 2026 in Dublin.

While the pact would see an increase in the LPT charge for Dublin city homeowners, the parties stated that the extra funding will result in much improved services for Dubliners — by spending more on street cleaning, housing maintenance and playgrounds.

Since the introduction of LPT in 2013, Dublin city councillors have had the ability to increase or decrease the base rate of the tax by 15 per cent.

Over the past 10 years, the councillors have voted for the maximum discount. This is expected to continue in 2025, when the country will go for general election.

As per the new pact, the increased charge will be applicable from 2026 till the remaining term of the council.
