Dublin’s Appeal for Workers Dimmed by Housing Woes, Survey Finds

Dublin – Ireland continues to charm professionals with its quality of life, but struggles to maintain its allure due to housing issues, a recent report reveals. The Stepstone Group’s survey of 1.5 million employees across 188 countries highlights Ireland’s slipping position as a preferred work destination.

Despite holding steady at 36th place, Dublin has dropped four points, signaling a concerning trend. While factors like quality of life, job security, and safety still attract workers, housing problems pose a significant deterrent.

European countries dominate the list of those eyeing Ireland for work, with Portugal, Hungary, and others leading the pack. However, challenges like the housing crisis affect both local and foreign workers alike, with only eight percent of Irish workers considering jobs abroad.

Sam Dooley, Stepstone Group Ireland’s country director, emphasizes the need for action from employers and the government to address housing and visa concerns. Basic amenities, especially accommodation, must be prioritized to sustain Ireland’s appeal as a workplace destination.

The report, conducted in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group and The Network, underscores the importance of proactive measures to uphold Dublin’s status as a preferred working hub.
