Dublin – Indian travelers are flocking to Schengen countries following the European Commission’s simplification of visa rules. Starting April 18, Indian nationals can now apply for multiple-entry Schengen visas with longer validity periods. Those with a consistent travel history can receive visas valid for up to two years, and even five-year visas if their passports allow.
This change is expected to make it significantly easier for Indians to obtain long-term visas. The travel and tourism sector predicts a 15% increase in trips from India to the EU due to the new law.
Nishant Pitti, CEO of Easy My Trip Platform, noted a 12% rise in Indian tourists aiming to visit Schengen countries, with France, Greece, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany being top destinations.
Germany has seen a notable increase in visa applications, receiving 130,000 this year, compared to 120,000 in 2023 and 76,000 in 2022. German diplomat Georg Ensweiler praised the new rules, calling them a significant win for Indian travelers and consulates alike.
