Five Irish books shortlisted for Novel of the Year Award worth €20k

The 2023 Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award, which has a combined prize budget of €22,000, includes five Irish novels on its shortlist.

The overall winner of the 2023 award will receive €20,000.

Only a handful of Irish books have made it onto the shortlist out of the initial over 50 novels that were submitted for the prizes.

The Colony by Audrey Magee and The Geometer Lobachevsky by Adrian Duncan are among those shortlisted as well as Trespasses by Louise Kennedy, The Amusements by Aingeala Flannery and The Witches of Vardo by Anya Bergman.

The novels provide distinct depictions of Ireland and Irish life and cover a wide range of genres.

The overall winner of the €20,000 prize will be announced on the opening night of the festival on Wednesday 31 May.

Established in 1995, the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Awards is an annual event for Irish fiction authors. Last year, Claire Keegan won the award for her novel, Small Things Like These.
