Ireland secured the fourth medal in Tokyo Paralympics with swimmer Nicole Turner. Ms Turner won a silver in the S6 50m Butterfly event this morning, finishing second. With this winning, Ireland has bagged four medals in Tokyo so far, including two golds and two slivers.
The 19-year-old finished with a time of 36.30 seconds beating USA’s Elizabeth Marks. China’s Jiang Yuyan won the gold with a world record.
“To be honest it hasn’t sunk in at all,” said Turner after winning the first Paralympic medal in her career.
“I always thought it would be a fight for bronze. I think I was shaking before the race even started,” she added.
Turner is a native of Portarlington, Co Laois.
