A garda officer has been suspended following an investigation launched after a theft allegation from a female Deliveroo rider. The incident happened in September this year in Dublin City Centre. According to the rider, the officer in question stopped and searched her along with another officer whom were identified themselves as gardai. They also had Garda badges.
After the search she was brought back to her home and from where the rider alleges the officer stole money. She found out her passport also was missing along with several hundreds of euros just after the men left her apartment.
Later on, the woman had made a formal complaint to the local garda station. Following this, the gardai sent photos of the suspected officers to different stations across the capital and one officer, believed to be the second one participated in the ‘search’ identified himself to his superior as being one of the men in question. He told his superior officer that he believed he was on a legitimate search.
No record of the search was initially found on the internal Garda PULSE system.
However, it did appear on the system after the evo-fit had been sent around the station, something which raised the suspicions of senior officers. It is standard practice to upload searches to the system as soon as possible.
The Garda Press Office today confirmed that the garda officer in question has been suspended from active duty and a full investigation has been launched into the matter.
