According to a survey released on Thursday, Irish consumer sentiment increased in January to its highest level in seven months. The authors credit the improvement to a decline in fuel prices and a strong Irish economy.
In January, the Credit Union Consumer Sentiment index increased to 55.2 from 48.7 in December. That was up from a 14-year low of 42.1 recorded in September, but well below the 85.6 average registered by the survey over the past 27 years.
The survey’s components that focused on household finances saw the biggest month-to-month changes, with consumers indicating a greater desire to spend, according to the survey’s authors.
