The Covid 19 vaccine by AstraZeneca has been banned by the Republic of Ireland on the reports published by the Norwegian Medicines Agency (NMA). The reports show that there are serious blood clotting events in adults who already had the vaccination. The Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said that the decision to ban the vaccine is precautionary and the ministry will decide on the next stages later.
The Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) and National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) also agreed with the ministry’s decision. The ministry had not decided on how long the ban on AstraZeneca vaccine will last and the usage of Pfizer vaccine and Moderna vaccine will continue.
The NMA has not confirmed that the blood clotting issue is a side effect of AstraZeneca vaccine but only because people who took the vaccine had suffered from it. Over 117000 doses of vaccines have been rolled out in the country. Dr. Ronan Glynn advised that people who feel any difficulties after taking the vaccines must consult a doctor and undergo proper medication.
