Is your child born after November 1, 2019? Now you can avail 5 weeks parent leave with €245 each week

Parents of children born after November 1, 2019 are urged to avail Parent’s Benefit in Ireland by the department of Social Protection. If your child was born or adopted on or after November 1, 2019, you are entitled to apply for a leave of 5 weeks to take care of the child and to receive a payment of €245 each week during this period. The maximum payment therefore would be €1,225. The application shall be made for both the parents within two years of child birth or adoption.

Earlier the leave was for two weeks which the government later extended to 5 weeks in April 2021. So, if anyone who got a leave of two weeks earlier than this date can apply for further three weeks leave. They will be receiving the payment too, the department made it clear.

As per the reports, 20,400 parents in the country have benefited from this scheme from April to July 2021. The government have spent almost €14 million regarding this, Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys said.

To avail the benefit, you can log on to https://services.mywelfare.ie/ website.
