Kerala Muslim Community Ireland organizes successful charity event for homeless in Waterford

The Kerala Muslim Community Ireland (KMCI) in association with Helping Hand Waterford organized a Family Charity Meet on October 11, 2025, at Ballygunner GAA Club Auditorium to support homeless and needy individuals in the area.

Food items and financial assistance collected by KMCI members through fundraising were handed over to Helping Hand Waterford representatives through Waterford Mayor Seamus Ryan.

KMCI Secretary Famir C.K. delivered the welcome address, while Chairman Anas M. Syed presided over the event. Mayor Ryan highlighted the importance of charity in Islamic teachings and the Qur’an, emphasizing that compassion and community service are foundational human values.

Stephanie Keating, Vice Treasurer of Helping Hand Waterford, and Secretary Mary Dundon explained the organization’s activities supporting disadvantaged groups in Waterford city and surrounding areas. They outlined Helping Hand’s role in community welfare and assistance programmes.

KMCI Treasurer Janeesh Puzhakkal delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success.

More than 15 families and 40 KMCI members participated, creating what organizers described as a wonderful experience combining delicious food, entertainment and family fellowship.

The event reflected KMCI’s commitment to social responsibility and humanitarian values, demonstrating the Kerala Muslim community’s active engagement in addressing homelessness and supporting vulnerable populations in Waterford.

The collaboration between KMCI and Helping Hand Waterford exemplifies community-led initiatives addressing social welfare needs, with voluntary organizations working together to provide practical assistance to those experiencing homelessness and poverty.
