A man has been arrested for brothel keeping as part of gardai operation targeting human trafficking. The gardai operation consisted 45 visits nationally to individuals within the sex trade, aiming to identify those who are potentially being sexually exploited or trafficked, reports the Journal.
In the operation, one female victim of sexual exploitation was identified, which led to the arrest of a man. According to gardai, the man has been involved in brothel keeping.
Some 77 people were questioned on suspicion of having purchased sexual activity and €10,170 was seized as proceeds from organised prostitution.
Police operations against human trafficking, especially for sexual exploitation are taking place across Europe. Europol is also helping the operations under ‘EMPACT’ framework.
In Ireland, The Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017 criminalises the purchase of sexual services and the soliciting or purchasing of sex from a trafficked person.
