Met Eireann issues yellow rain warning as Ireland braces for storm Lilian

Heavy rains are expected to lash several counties in Ireland tonight with Met Eireann issuing a status yellow warning in view of Storm Lilian.

The warning, which will be in effect from 10pm tonight until 4am tomorrow, has been issued for Clare, Galway, Roscommon, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly and Westmeath.

According to the Irish Meteorological Service, a status yellow weather alert indicates that the weather does not pose a threat to the general population but is potentially dangerous on a localised scale. The alert also means people should not take any avoidable risks.

Similarly, the forcaster also issued a status yellow wind warning for Munster, Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Kildare and Dublin. It will be in effect from midnight until 6am tomorrow.

It further said that unseasonably strong and gusty south to southwest winds, veering west to northwest are expected, and there is a continuing risk of coastal flooding due to very high tides.
