MNI and NMBI meets, demand more career progress for migrant Nurses

Migrant Nurses Ireland (MNI) has been invited by NMBI (Nursing And Midwifery Board Of Ireland) yesterday, 10th March for a lunch to take MNI’s input to the 2023 – 2025 strategy statement, as NMBI is seeing MNI as an important stakeholder.

MNI raised a number of important issues in the meeting which were listened to very well. Ray Healy, Director of registration, Kathy Ann Barrett, head of operations, and Greg Harkin, head of communication of NMBI were present at the lunch and meeting.

In the meeting, MNI demanded to revise the aptitude test and adaptation program to be more migrant nurses friendly and with a compassionate approach to get the best out of the candidate rather than being an intense process that does not take into account of the cultural change and shock experienced by a migrant nurse.

MNI also demanded access for migrant nurses to more information and education about career progress to various streams, especially Advanced Nurse practitioners.

NMBI promised actions on MNI’s demands.
