#NotAllMen comments face huge reaction in wake of Ashling Murphy killing

#NotAllMen is trending on Twitter after the terrible killing of Ashling Murphy.

Gardai have launched a murder investigation after Ashling Murphy (23) who is a primary school teacher, was attacked and killed while jogging during the daytime in Tullamore on Wednesday.

Ashling  did not appear to know her attacker and was going for an after-work run at around 4pm when she was fatally assaulted.

The attack happened at around 4pm on a stretch of the canal bank called Fiona’s Way, in memory of Fiona Pender, the local woman who grew up nearby and went missing in 1996 at the age of 25.

A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody. It’s understood that there were a number of witnesses to the attack, as the picturesque area is popular with walkers and cyclists.

Following the brutal murder news, there have been widespread calls to address gender-based violence – specifically with regard to men attacking and killing women.

on the other hand, some people have apparently taken this horrific societal issue personally and there have been multiple tweets defending the sex with a #notallmen hashtag.

The ill-advised comments have received a huge reaction with many stating that those sending a #notallmen message are entirely missing the point.
