Through a campaign that promotes environmental awareness, Dublin City Council is pleading with the public to donate their used Christmas trees this year.
Following the holiday season, the council has made arrangements for real trees to be recycled into compost and wood chips. Trees can be brought directly to recycling facilities, but council staff has also set up drop-off locations that are spread out over several residential areas.
On social media, Dublin Fire Brigade praised the initiative and urged people to take part. They also cautioned people against felling trees for firewood this holiday season.
They wrote on Twitter: “Please use services like this in the New Year. Don’t be tempted to cut your tree up for firewood. It will not be seasoned and will not burn, it will also contribute to lining your chimney.”
