UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak informed members of his inner circle that he is fearful of losing his Yorkshire constituency in the general election, the Guardian has reported.
In case of a defeat, 44-year-old Sunak would become the first sitting leader of the country to lose his seat. In 2019, he won the seat with a majority of over 27,000 and 63 per cent of the vote.
Britons were voting on Thursday in a parliamentary election that is widely expected to bring the Labour Party to power and oust Sunak’s Conservatives after 14 years.
The 14 turbulent years of Conservative rule saw five prime ministers in eight years.
Official results are expected in the early hours of Friday.
