Storm Floris set to disrupt bank holiday Monday with wind and rain

Storm Floris will bring wet and windy conditions to Ireland on Bank Holiday Monday, following its arrival in the UK where it has prompted yellow weather warnings.

The storm is expected to impact Ireland from Sunday evening, with Met Éireann forecasting rain and gusty winds spreading from the west on Sunday night. Temperatures will drop to between 12 and 15 degrees.

Monday will see a particularly wet and windy start across the country, with strong gusty winds and widespread rain, likely heaviest over northwestern areas. However, conditions are expected to improve through the morning and afternoon, with sunny spells and scattered showers developing as winds ease.

The UK Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for the northern half of Britain, including Northern Ireland, from 6am Monday until 6am Tuesday. Scotland is expected to bear the brunt of the storm’s strongest winds.

Bank holiday weekend weather will remain largely pleasant until Sunday evening’s deterioration. Friday stays mostly dry with occasional drizzle, while Saturday will see sunshine in eastern areas and some rain in western regions, with temperatures reaching 17-23 degrees.

Sunday morning will start bright after overnight rain clears, before Storm Floris arrives in the evening. Tuesday promises a return to drier, brighter conditions following the storm’s passage.
