SuperValu warns customers to be cautious of fake social media page scamming for personal information

Irish supermarket SuperValu has issued a warning to consumers about a fake social media profile that purports to be the brand.

The Facebook page “SuperValu Ireland Fans” has been posing as the grocery store. People are being urged to click a link and provide their personal data.

A notice regarding the fraud has been issued on SuperValu’s official page, which has a verified certification on Facebook. They’ve affirmed that they will never request that users click on any links.

They said: ‘We have been made aware that there is a fake page circulating called ‘SuperValu Ireland Fans’. We can confirm that we have no affiliation with this page. If you see this Facebook page we would advise you NOT to interact. Do not click on any links or share any personal info. Thank you to those who brought this to our attention. Our official Facebook page will never ask you to click on any links.”

Many users said that they reported the page to Facebook but that it had responded that it was “not against its community standards” despite their claims. The absence of professional language on the website was one of the contrasts they pointed out.
