Met Éireann warns of flooding risk and difficult travel conditions

Met Éireann has issued a yellow weather warning for counties Kerry and Galway as severe thunderstorms are expected to affect the areas today.
The warning, which came into effect at 9am, will remain in place until this evening. Thunderstorms are expected to accompany heavy rainfall, with the potential for localized flooding and difficult travel conditions.
Authorities are warning that the heavy rain associated with the thunderstorms could lead to surface water flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Motorists are being advised to exercise caution and allow extra time for journeys.
The warning comes as Ireland continues to experience unsettled weather conditions following recent storms that have brought widespread disruption across the country. Saturated ground conditions increase the risk of flooding from additional heavy rainfall.
Residents in Kerry and Galway are advised to secure outdoor items, clear drains and gutters where possible, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Drivers should be particularly vigilant for sudden changes in road conditions and should never attempt to drive through flooded areas.
Met Éireann continues to monitor conditions and will provide updates if the warning is extended or additional counties are added to the alert.
