Dublin 8 Among Coolest Neighbourhoods In World; The List Features An Indian City Too

Dublin 8 has become one of the coolest neighbourhoods to live in 2021 under the list prepared by global magazine Time Out. The list is prepared annually by the expert panel by considering many factors including food, drink, nightlife and culture. But as the pandemic hit the world for the last 18 months, the editors have considered more safety related factors such as community spirit, resilience and sustainability.

27,000 city-dwellers have participated in the survey other than the editors and contributors of Time Out.

In the list of 49 coolest neighbourhoods, Dublin 8 has managed to make it to the 15th spot. According to the magazine, Dublin 8 in the city of Dublin has made plenty of positive changes in the past year too.  Lucky’s pub has been transformed into a cultural hotspot with excellent rotating exhibitions, while Pearse Lyons Distillery is taking tours around its church distillery again, explains the list.

The editors also praised the neighbourhood brims with vintage and bric-à-brac shops, street art, markets, homey cafés, of the city’s food culture. They also give much appreciation for the Dublin Food Cooperatives where locals can buy organic produce and educate themselves at sustainability workshops and other community events.

War memorial Phoenix Park, Irish Museum of Modern Art etc. also received honourable mentions.

Nørrebro in Copenhagen became the number one coolest neighbourhood according to Time Out. While Andersonville in Chicago came second, third place was secured by Jongno 3-ga, Seoul.

Popular cities New York (Chelsea, 6th place), Budapest (XI District, 7th place), Hong Kong (Sai Kung, 9th place), Melbourne (Richmond, 10th place) also ranked high in the list.

Indian city Pune’s Koregaon Park was named the 48th coolest neighbourhood in the world. The editors praised the city’s cheaper cost of living, decent weather, proximity to nature and relative lack of traffic.
