Sligo Indian Association elects first ever ‘women cabinet’

The Sligo Indian Association elected women to every post for the first time in the history of Indian associations in Ireland.

The new committee has been announced by the Indian Association of Sligo.

Dr. Vimala Sharma was elected as President and Sophie Babu Alookaran as Secretary.

Lynsey Joseph is the Treasurer, Sarita Madapalli is the Cultural Secretary, Ramya James is the Public Relations Officer, Sarita Unnikrishnan is the Media Officer, and Joita Bancha is the Auditor.

Dr. Suresh Pillai, George Chadha and Anirban Banja led the election.

The Indian Association of Sligo has set the standard in empowering women.

Working closely with the local community is another priority for the Indian Association of Sligo.

It is home to Ireland’s largest Indian community, which unites expatriates from different Indian states under one roof.
