Further 4,642 Covid cases in Ireland today; Experts forecast 12,300 daily cases by Christmas

Further 4,642 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Ireland today. As of 8 AM today, there are 556 Covid patients being treated in hospitals. 107 among them are in ICU.

The total number of Covid deaths in the country has risen to 5,566 after The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) confirmed 74 deaths on Wednesday.

Meanwhile Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) in the US have forecasted Ireland will see a rapid increase in daily cases by the end of Christmas. There would be up to 12,300 patients a day in late December after the busiest days. Also further 2,000 people would die by the start of March next year, they added.

IHME is based at the University of Washington.

There were 5,843 cases of Covid-19 in the country on Friday, the sixth-highest daily total since the start of the pandemic.
