In a significant development, Indian-origin Ranjith Punnoose has been appointed as the leader of Ireland’s main opposition party Sinn Féin in County Offaly, marking a remarkable journey for the accomplished chef and philanthropist. Previously, he held the position of Secretary in County Wexford and was also the Secretary for the New Ross area.
Having relocated with his family to County Offaly, Ranjith was selected by the Sinn Féin leadership to serve as Secretary for the Banagher area. Ranjith, who gained recognition as a talented chef in Ireland, was a finalist in the 2020 All Ireland Best Chef competition. Additionally, he has undertaken several philanthropic initiatives in his home state of Kerala, especially during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Notably, Ranjith has been instrumental in advocating for the rights of chefs coming to Ireland on general work permits, taking their concerns to the government. This new role comes as a recognition of his outstanding work over the last four years. He expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the party and looks forward to the new responsibilities ahead.
