New International Airport Planned Near Arklow, Ireland

A consortium from the Middle East is in the process of acquiring land for a new international airport near Arklow in County Wicklow, Ireland. The project aims to alleviate air traffic congestion and provide more cost-effective options for airlines compared to Dublin Airport.

Reportedly, negotiations have led to an agreement to secure 600 acres of land from local families and farmers, with plans to obtain up to 1,000 acres for the airport’s construction. Despite these developments, Wicklow County Council has not received formal information regarding the project.

This initiative isn’t entirely new. Back in 2010, businessman Pascal Taggart proposed a similar plan, which was met with initial approval from Wicklow County Council but ultimately saw no progress.

Currently, Ireland boasts four international airports in Dublin, Cork, Shannon, and Knock, with Belfast also hosting one in Northern Ireland. If realized, the Arklow airport could offer additional connectivity options for travelers and potentially ease the strain on existing air infrastructure.
