SIPTU’s Section 39 healthcare workers vote overwhelmingly for strike action over pay dispute

Healthcare workers in Section 39 organisations, who are members of SIPTU, have voted decisively in favor of strike action amid an ongoing pay dispute.

The ballot saw 96 per cent support for industrial action on a 70 per cent turnout.

Section 39 organisations, which are privately owned charities and agencies contracted by the State to provide healthcare services, employ thousands of affected workers.

The planned strike will involve staff from 21 organisations across the country, including the Rehab Group and the Disability Federation of Ireland.

SIPTU stated that it will take this strong mandate into negotiations at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) on Monday, seeking a resolution.

The union has accused the Government of failing to honor a pay agreement reached at the WRC in October 2023.
