Work from home may be reintroduced amid Covid infection surge in Ireland

Government may reintroduce work from home amid a surge in Covid infections across the country in the recent weeks. Yesterday, the HSE had confirmed further 3,805 Covid cases in Ireland and there were 582 patients being treated at hospitals due to Covid. 106 among them were in ICUs.

The National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) have already advised the government to consider implementing work from home once again and according to a report by The Irish Times, a number of ministers have backed it.

The Cabinet Covid-19 subcommittee will discuss the matter today and inform the government about their decision. Following this, a full cabinet meeting is due tomorrow and final decision about work from home will be taken after.

Meanwhile Taoiseach Micheál Martin yesterday said he was “extremely concerned” about the prevalence of Covid-19 across the State and that “nothing can be ruled out” in terms of new restrictions. He had also said subsidised antigen testing will be introduced in the country.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly will brief the antigen subsidy plan in the upcoming Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

According to the government sources, a full restriction is less likely to be implemented. Work from home had officially pulled out by the government last month.
