Ryanair and Aer Lingus cancel flights tomorrow due to French strike

Ryanair has stated that it is cancelling 420 flights, affecting 80,000 passengers, due to a strike by French air traffic controllers that will take place tomorrow.

Many flights from the Dublin airport are included in those. Ryanair claims to have sent emails or SMS notifications to affected customers informing them of the cancellations.

The DGAC aviation authority in France urged earlier this week that airlines cut the number of flights scheduled for Friday in half owing to the anticipated strike.

Ryanair said it will mainly be impacted by the limitation on overflying France. It flies up to 3,000 flights a day across Europe during its peak season.

“It is time that the EU step in and protect overflights so that European passengers are not repeatedly held to ransom by a tiny French ATC union,” Ryanair Operations Director Neal McMahon said in a statement.

Other air traffic control centres should be allowed to manage overflights of France during strikes, the statement said.

Aer Lingus has also cancelled four flights between Dublin and Paris for tomorrow due to the strike. The flights are EI524 EI525 EI528 and EI529.

The airline says, using the airline’s online booking system or contact centre, travellers who are scheduled to travel can make free changes to their flight reservations.

Due to Heathrow airport’s wish to decrease noise during Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, certain Aer Lingus customers may also experience flight disruptions on the Dublin-Heathrow route on Monday, September 19.

Six flights between Dublin and Heathrow are affected – EI 160 EI165, EI168 EI169 EI176 and EI177.

Two flights between Belfast and Heathrow are also affected – EI1932 and EI1935.

Aer Lingus says they will be getting in touch with each customer individually and have rebooked as many passengers as they could on other flights. Flight changes free of charge are also being offered.
